Wantagh Elementary Second Graders Build Landforms

Second graders at Wantagh Elementary School explored landforms in their STEAM classes and worked on a collaborative project to build 3D maps.
Every class created a map that featured multiple landforms, such as islands mountains, oceans, plains, rivers and valleys. Students worked in small groups to complete each piece of a fictional place, making their landforms out of model magic. The whole class then came together to assemble all of the components on a large posterboard.
Teacher Kaitlin Humphrey said that the hands-on project supported their science unit on landforms, weathering and erosion. That preceded a lesson on how land is created.
