ENL Fair Showcases the Many Cultures of Wantagh Schools

Wantagh’s English language learners got to explore each other’s cultures during the inaugural ENL Fair. The event, at Wantagh High School, welcomed all English as a New Language students from the district.
Students were invited to make digital presentations with information about their native countries and cultures. Participants traveled around the room to see the presentations, ask questions and have their passports stamped. The countries represented included China, India, Pakistan, Turkey, Ukraine and several Spanish-speaking nations.
Presenters ranged from second grade to high school seniors. All English language learners from the elementary schools, middle school and high school attended. Students who were formally in the program, and have progressed out because of their increased English proficiency, also were invited.
In advance of the event, ENL teachers assisted students in making the presentations. The teachers coordinated the fair which also included games, snacks and socializing. The ENL students celebrated a successful day by making a poster together.
